MEMBERSHIP QUALIFICATIONS (BYLAWS, SECTION 2.1 )

 

A member of Unity of the Valley shall endeavor to live in accord with the universal principles of Love and Truth as taught by Unity. He/She shall further the work of the Ministry through his/her active interest, love, and support.

 

A person may apply to the Board for membership in the Society, and the person becomes a member on the Board’s acceptance of the application. All staff Ministers/Spiritual Leaders and Licensed Unity Teachers are considered members of this Ministry.

 

Membership shall be for one year.  All members must reapply for membership by January of each year. A member shall retain membership until January 31 following, unless it is voluntarily severed, or if removal from membership is decided upon in accordance with  Section 2.5 below.

 

MEMBERSHIP POWERS (RIGHTS & RESPONSIBILITIES) (BYLAWS SECTION 2.7 )

 

2.3 Every member must uphold the constitution of the Society and must comply with these Bylaws.

 

2.7 Members of Unity of the Valley shall have the power to do the following:

 

  • (a) Vote at any membership meeting, at which the member is present, and called in accordance with Section 3.5.
  • (b)  Elect members to the Board of Directors as specified in Section 4.10-4.13.
  • (c)  Ratify the Bylaws of this Ministry and/or amendments thereto as specified in Section 8.1.
  • (d)  Vote on any question of sale or pledge of real property owned and used for the operation of this Ministry which exceeds Fifteen Thousand Dollars ($15,000.00) in value. A seventy-five per cent (75%) affirmative vote of those present and voting is required to approve the sale or pledge. Refer to Section 4.7(g).
  • (e)  Elect a member to serve on the Nominating Committee as specified in Section 4.11.
  • (f)  Request the calling of a special membership meeting when the affairs of this Ministry warrant such action. Refer to Section 3.4.:
  1. A written request must be submitted to the Board who shall, within twenty-one (21) days, call the meeting on behalf of the requesting party.  
  2. The purpose(s) for the special meeting shall be stated both in the written request and the written notice to the Membership.  Business conducted at Special Membership Meetings shall be limited to the pre-stated purpose(s) as communicated in the announcement of meeting.
  • (g) Vote to override any action of the Board of Directors providing it is communicated to the membership in writing twenty-one (21) days prior to the subsequent meeting of the membership and seventy-five (75%) percent of those present and voting have the authority for determination.
  • (h)  Vote for the removal of any Trustee from his/her office in accordance with Sec. 4.14 (c   
  • (i)   Vote on any matters officially brought to the attention of the membership. 
  • (j)  Offer suggestions to the Minister(s) or Board of Directors as may seem advisable for the good of the Ministry.

 

2.8 Members of Unity of the Valley shall have the OBLIGATION to do the following:

 

(a) Give up your first-born child to our Holy Cause, if so voted at any membership meeting, at which the member is present, and called in accordance with Section 3.5.
